Late tonight, at 12:16 a.m. PT on October 3, 2026, Venus, the planet of love and money, turns retrograde at 8°29′ Scorpio.
Venus stations retrograde in the deep, dark, sexy and very mysterious sign of Scorpio. The fixed water sign of hidden desires, jealousy, vengeance, lust, merging, power and control, and transformation is no-nonsense and no-holds-barred. Scorpio doesn’t mess around! Retrograde Venus asks us for reassessment, revision, reevaluation and then, perchance, rebirth out of the foam of the sea in a seashell, just like Aphrodite in Paphos. Reactive or proactive, either way some form, some facet, some feature of our relationships demands change. It is inescapable and unavoidable.
The retrograde lasts until approximately November 14. Venus backs up through the sign of Scorpio, and then on October 25, 2026, Venus will reenter Libra.
Venus moves backward first through the heavy-hitting sign of Scorpio, which demands excoriation and then exculpation. The first three weeks of October will deal with deep and hard-to-avoid topics, some laid aside or denied for a long time, maybe since 2018, ultimately reawakened or resurfacing for final resolution. As we move through the zodiac, Venus eventually backs all the way into Libra, the sign it rules. In Libra, the retrograde highlights all relationships, balance, approbation, aesthetics, the power of choice, plans, projects and social contracts. What felt deeply personal (maybe a little grudging) in Scorpio will become social and relational.
On November 14, 2026, Venus stations direct at 22°51′ Libra.
When Venus stations direct, ending the 43-day retrograde period as the Evening Star becomes the Morning Star, our much overdue reassessment reaches its conclusion. All that was occluded, hidden or just buried too deep for tears will be exposed to the light of day, now fully visible. We prepare to forge ahead, but the process is still fairly slow and not fully ironed out until early December.
The Sumerians called Venus’s retrograde journey the Descent of Inanna. It was her journey to the underworld in order to retrieve what was lost. Remember that Venus is the planet of love, desire, marriage, romance, attraction, value, money, beauty, and the power to attract or to repel what we want. It is what we love, how we love it, how we go after it and how we toss it away! During retrograde, the expression of these themes may become a bit difficult, and overall we move inward rather than outward. The internal process is more important than the external focus. Venus retrograde shows the true condition of our love life and the condition, or perdition, of our finances as well.
This is not as bad as it may seem. The old astrological maxim of “don’t get married during Venus retrograde” is not set in stone outside of India. The deeper truth may be entirely different: Venus retrograde internalizes and forces a reevaluation or reexamination of our needs and desires. Honesty is paramount, not rose-colored glasses. Putting lipstick on a pig ultimately changes nothing, and it is important that we see things as they are, not as we wish them to be. The retrograde is a time when attractions that may have been based on insubstantial ground or projection rather than authenticity begin to show their warts and their faults. When financial plans, projects, contracts, schemes or dreams that were built on hyperbole lose their sheen and momentum, even possibly falling apart, we must instead rely on what was built on solid, grounded reality. This will become unmistakably clear by the end of October, just in time for Mercury retrograde! Falsity and shallow cosmetics are stripped away, and we get to the heart of important matters.
The common manifestations of Venus retrograde are well documented across the ages.
In relationships: Be apprised that ex-partners may resurface, unfinished business demands completion, and relationships that seemed rock solid reveal hidden or overlooked fractures. New relationships can begin and can be successful during Venus retrograde, but they carry a theme related to the signs of Venus’s retrogradation, which in this case will be Scorpio and Libra, and they may eventually demand or require reevaluation or a reestablishing of their foundation. Remember, because Venus rules lust as well as love, what began as raw passion may leave a lot of emotional questions that must be answered before moving forward with the deal!
In all things money-related: Financial decisions made during Venus retrograde often require revision, and new investments may not perform as promised. Old plans, projects, deals or contracts may need to be renegotiated. It is a good time to find a lawyer or to change lawyers. Try not to sue anyone, but if you end up in court, it’s a good time to fight back.
Look for bargains. Someone actually found a copy of the Declaration of Independence behind an old print at a garage sale during a Venus retrograde. You can get a windfall: long-withheld financial gains, contract settlements, shared resources, investments, even lottery winnings can happen with eighth-house Scorpio energy, and the focus turns to contracts, negotiations and partners with the Libra retrograde. Venus also deals with shared resources and open enemies, but also open allies: people who stand with you versus those who don’t. All associations or partnerships built on a solid footing can survive, whilst others may need to be cast aside or revised.
Overall, this is not a time of enforced privation or poverty. Remember that monies can come to you during the Venus retrograde, but they usually have been owed a while, promised for a while, and come from something borrowed and blue rather than brand spanking new.
Of course, it’s not a good time for any cosmetic procedure, new wardrobe or new hairdo, for designing or redesigning something, or for getting a whole new line of furniture or clothing. Remember that purchases that look great may eventually lose their luster. The real cost of beauty becomes visible. Goods and services may not be so good or serviceable. This is not bad, just a caution to be more discerning and perspicacious.
In all things aesthetic, our very perception of color, and of that which we thought was beautiful, becomes a little off. Our taste can shift: clothes that looked so good on us before we may suddenly despise, things that seemed part of our routine suddenly feel wrong, and any image you may have projected may reveal itself as a cosmetic Band-Aid, or even a costume, rather than the real thing. It is important at this time to look at what lies beneath mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually, and always go for what is real rather than what could’ve, should’ve or might’ve been.
One strange caution I have noted over the years: Venus retrograde can increase foodborne illness or food poisoning. Do watch what you eat, where you eat, how you eat and how you cook during this period.
In values: We can realize what it is we actually want and who it is we really desire. What do we really value? Who do we really love? We will separate our authentic desire from an imitation of life, moving away from inauthentic, grasping, greedy, superficial attraction. Fundamentally, we can audit what we value by figuratively or literally cleaning house and keeping only what we really need versus what we think we do.
Venus retrograde occurs roughly every eighteen months, spending about 40–43 days in apparent backward motion. There are themes that come back across multiple retrogrades, and the last time Venus retrograded in Scorpio was October–November 2018.
That time, themes involving sex, power, inappropriate behaviors, abuse and lying to cover it up surfaced. The #MeToo movement was accelerating. Hidden power dynamics in relationships (financial, sexual, emotional) were being exposed. What had been long buried or hidden in the shadows was drawn out into the public arena. Scorpio’s domain is the hidden, the strange, the sometimes dangerous, shocking or taboo; Venus retrograde in Scorpio makes the invisible very, very visible.
Venus retrograde does not break solid relationships, but it will reveal what was never solid or may have already been broken. And remember, this is not a calamity; it is actually an opportunity, however uncomfortable. Our navigation is straightforward once you know the rules of the game and what is actually unraveling. This is not a time to avoid committing, but commit very, very carefully. Any romantic or financial contracts at this time need to have the fine print as clear as possible. Revision, review, rejoining contracts, renegotiating contracts: these are all possible at this time, because many relationships that begin during Venus retrograde can actually be some of the best we’ve ever had. Any doubts must be addressed, but this only brings honesty into the mix.
If you’re already in any kind of financial or romantic relationship, use the retrograde period to speak your truth. If you have anger, resentment or any type of hidden lower-realm energies, bring them to the surface. Try to discuss it. This may not be the time for new attraction, but it is the best time for a come-to-Jesus talk with what already is. Any relationship that survives a serious Venus retrograde is built on the deepest and most sincere foundation.
Do revisit creative projects, because Venus is all about creativity, beauty and the arts. Anything you may have laid aside, any stalled project, whether an artistic venture or a creative design: now is the perfect time to return to it and get it up and running. Reconnect with what is real. Reassess your spending by what you really need versus what you want.
Remember, the dust doesn’t really settle until the post-retrograde shadow passes on December 15. Saturn turning direct and the winter solstice will reveal all of the change and how we will have processed and accepted it by the end of the year.
October and November 2026 will bring A GREAT RECKONING AND REAWAKENING. How you handle this is up to you, but make wise and conscious decisions for yourself. The deepest teaching of Venus retrograde is that your desires, your true loves, your monies, your finances, all things romance and all relationships are governed in this free-will universe by you. However influenced by others, ultimately you decide. So make your choices and make them count.
