May arrives with two energies in conversation: the rooted patience of Taurus and the restless curiosity of Gemini. The first half of the month does slow us down and asks us to tend to what matters — what brings us stability, security, continuity;whether it is our bodies, our finances, our values, or our quiet commitments. The second half opens the window and lets in a refreshing breeze. By the end of the month, we will have moved through stasis, out of limbo into motion, through profound depths into dialogue and new communication.

If April left you scattered, shattered, depressed, or depleted, May offers a chance to gather yourself — but it will not let you stand still for too long. No grass will grow under your feet.

Opening with a Reckoning: The Scorpio Full Moon

The month began on May 1 under the deep, intense Full Moon in Scorpio — the kind of lunation that does not let you look away. Scorpio rules the hidden, the buried, the things we carry but rarely name, those things which do often lie too deep for tears. This excoriating Full Moon brought them into the light: old patterns, deep feelings, issues of honesty and betrayal, things we have forfended or postponed, or the solid truth in a relationship that has either been waiting quietly in the wings for change or for the time to let go.

That Full Moon was not a time to force anything, although change was all around us. It was a time for noticing what had to be done — the changes that have already happened beneath the surface. Let them percolate. Let them come to the surface. Discard what is asking to be released. Don’t hold on to anything that is no longer sustainable. Anything you cling to here will only be more of a problem discarding later.

A Quiet Turn Inward: Pluto Stations Retrograde

On May 8, Pluto stationed retrograde in Aquarius, where it remains not only in reflection but in inward work — inside-job stuff. Pluto’s retrograde period is never about retreat, but it does bring deep emotional issues into play. It is not just about excavation; it involves excoriation. Power, technology, community, AI, Transpersonal issues, and collective transformation — themes that have been moving out in the open in the Revolutionary ground breaking sign of Aquarius — now moves toward each of us, or through each of us, in private.

Where do you hold on to authority, or where do authority figures hold on to you under their hegemony or sway, in your life? Do you fear them? Obey them? Rebuke them? Avoid them? Where have you handed over your own authority or given your power away? Pluto retrograde will keep returning you to these questions — steadily, inevitably, persistently — until you get them right.

Mid-Month: Grounding the Vision

The New Moon in Taurus on May 16 is one of the best and most fertile intention-setting moments of the year. We get grounded on the sixteenth. Whatever you plant under this moon — finance, romance, health practice, creative projects, new business commitments, honoring your own efforts and steadfast determination, creating security out of the unbelievable instability on the World Stage — will grow planted deeply, as something built to last.

But be specific. Be practical. Be loyal. And be patient with this soil.

The Great Reshuffle: May 17 and 18

May is a great reshuffle, because two days after the new moon, three personal planets shift signs and the entire nature and texture of the month will shift with them.

Mercury moves into rapid Gemini on May 17, opening all the channels of communication that Taurus may have blocked, ignored, or kept closed. Conversations multiply. Solutions can be found. Ideas connect. The pace of thought and action accelerates, and what may have felt deliberate — or even stultified — becomes dynamic.

On May 18, Venus enters loving, nurturing, secure, loyal, sometimes clingy Cancer, drawing love and connection inward. Where Venus in Gemini flirted, explored, kissed and ran away, Venus in Cancer wants commitment. Wants a nest. Relationships take on greater depth and weight, more tenderness, more memory. The deep emotional level of the Cancerian nature, which rules unconditional love, asks you to pay attention to who you want close to you now. Your intuition will tell you.

That same day, Mars leaves its vibrant, powerful Aries home and settles into solid, hardworking, going-uphill-with-bricks-on-your-back Taurus. After weeks of impulse and ignition, fiery energy and angst and anger, the drive becomes steadier — strategic, determined, perseverant. This is excellent news for any project that requires endurance rather than a quick fix or quick solution. The sprinter becomes the long-distance runner, and a winner.

A Wider Sky: The Sun Enters Gemini

The Sun enters Gemini on May 20 — the sign of the twins — and the mood shifts decisively. Curiosity replaces caution. Intellect replaces feeling. Networking, learning, writing, teaching, and travel are all favored. If you have been wanting to start a conversation, a new business, a new message, a new rapport, or any interesting mental activity, idea, plan, or project — everything opens.

Pair this with Jupiter, still expanding through Cancer until June, and you have a genuinely rare current of intellectual and social possibility grounded in the oceans of water. Jupiter in Cancer provides a deep, bottomless foundation for a wealth of idea, emotion, structure, and change. Doors can open more easily now.

Watch the Friction: Mars Square Pluto

The problem between the nineteenth and the twenty-ninth is that Mars in Taurus will form a tense square to retrograde Pluto in Aquarius. This aspect brings power struggles, control issues, legal issues, stubborn standoffs, power plays, and control dramas — particularly around finance, money, work, shared resources, and karmic debt, if you will.

Force is not the answer. The remedy is restraint paired with clarity and honesty. No power plays here. Decide what is truly yours to push on and what is yours to release. This is not a time to hold on to anything that you have no real right to keep a grip on. The harder you grip here, the harder the lesson. Be careful.

Closing the Month: Integration

The close of May settles into something lighter and easier. Very supportive aspects between Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto move into the foreground — Neptune in Aries, Uranus in Gemini, and Pluto in Aquarius. This is the magic triangle I have written about. This is magic at its best: miraculous shift and change, inspiration, radical technological shifts, and brilliant innovation as the underscore and background of the season.

The Mars–Pluto square will ease. The tension will lessen. There is room now to integrate what you have learned, to consolidate your intention, and to bring to life — to manifest — those things you set or planted under the Taurus New Moon. Step into June with the clearest sense of direction you may have had in 2026.

The Month in One Breath

May 2026 is a month of release, of absolutely walking away from the past, followed by foundational shifts and new ground. Stillness after madness, followed by movement. It rewards those who can hold both — those who can sit with what is leaving, what is ending, while being okay with planting what is new, what is a separate path, what is a new beginning. Those who can be deliberate in the first half and flexible in the second. Versatility is the key.

Do not push the river. Do not rush it. Do not resist it. Let it move through you in its own order — and everything will be okay. NAMASTE
