MERCURY GOES DIRECT IN CANCER: DARE TO DREAM AGAIN

Today, July 23, 2026, Mercury stationed direct in the watery, sensitive, intuitive Cardinal sign of Cancer. This station is a sigh of relief after three weeks of unrealized expectations and missed or undelivered communications. Now the three-week retrograde period concludes! Mercury has been retrograde since June 29, retracing its path through the sign of emotional Cancer and stirring up the past. We may have had to contend with family concerns, emotional misunderstandings, and unfinished conversations. Melancholy nostalgia and deep memories of the past — some harkening all the way back to 1965 and 1967, and many years in between — have resurfaced like water bubbling up out of a spring. This has not been easy. Messenger of the gods Mercury’s direct station marks the beginning of a gradual return to clarity. It represents an opportunity to communicate with grounding, more emotional strength, a greater emotional awareness, and less occlusion — less fog and more direction and sense of purpose. Now we can move forward using the wisdom gained from revisiting the past.

In Western astrology, Mercury stationed direct at approximately 16°18′ Cancer this afternoon, July 23. This occurred at 6:57 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time and 3:57 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The retrograde started at 26° Cancer on June 29. The complete retrograde shadow cycle, which began June 12, will end on August 6th–7th.

Mercury governs communication, speech, thoughts, language, reasoning, information, and forms of transportation, as well as commerce, contractual agreements, and new technology. This fast-moving inner planet also affects the ways in which people disseminate, interpret, and integrate their experiences.

When Mercury appears to move backward across the heavens from Earth’s perspective, areas associated with the mental air sign of Gemini tend to become complicated, internalized or reflective, unclear, or subject to review and revision. Messages are lost, misdirected, or misunderstood, and decisions are reconsidered or delayed. Our schedules shift, become uncertain, or completely change. Information previously hidden or withheld can surface, and missed or overlooked fine print and details become more noticeable.

The Mercury direct station therefore ends its apparent “backward” movement. Astrologically, this is very important and critically underlines a change in direction, purpose, and dimension. From today forward, many matters that were sidetracked, sidelined, overlooked, missed, maddeningly delayed, obfuscated, or confused during this retrograde will begin to advance and gain momentum as well as purposeful direction. FINALLY! Missing pieces of information may emerge; business, contracts, negotiations, and conversations resume; people may become ready to speak; honesty and clarity return. Important decisions postponed during the previous weeks can gradually coalesce, then manifest.

Be apprised, however, that a Mercury direct station is not a panacea, or an instantaneous switch from confusion to certainty, or ruin to recovery. Mercury remains pretty “motionless” at its direct station and will advance very slowly. The few days surrounding July 23 may therefore feel particularly intense — the well-known “rubber band” effect, where all hell seems to break loose for a couple of days before things settle down — but expect calm by early next week. We are back on track and moving forward at almost full speed ahead. Important business deals, real estate concerns, personal communications, and realizations CAN occur, but we may still require some time to understand just what those feelings, facts, and figures that resurged or reappeared these last few weeks will mean in the days that lie ahead…

The period following the station is best approached as an acceptance and integration phase. Progress DOES resume, and it is OK to buy, sign, sell, ask for loans, ask for favors, and have important personal conversations and family tête-à-têtes. SO DO ask for help — BUT be aware that all matters for the next few days should be handled with caution and forethought rather than haste or waste! Our objective is not to forget what happened or what we learned during the retrograde in watery, emotional, security-minded, family-oriented Cancer. That old saying — “When the past calls, don’t answer the phone; it’s got nothing new to say” — has been very apropos these last weeks. Now we’re ready to move forward, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Please look before you leap, and give yourself a few days to gather yourself and your thoughts before we start moving ahead toward the great Full Moon on July 29.

I will write more, but for now — Hallelujah and Namaste.
